Prepare for Your Appointment

To make the most of your time with your adviser, please come prepared -- and on time -- for your appointment. Here's how:

  • Map out your courses. Print out this four-year curriculum planner to create a semester-by-semester schedule. You should also have a backup schedule in case classes you need are not offered during a particular semester.
  • Identify your goals as they relate to your education, career and personal life. Meeting with your academic advisor regularly can assist with these aspects of your life.
  • Know your catalog and your department student handbook. Each contains pertinent academic policies, general education requirements and most importantly, the courses for your major.
  • Bring questions. If you're having concerns about a particular class, talk to your advisor. If you're thinking about changing a class you already planned to take, let your advisor know so that our office can update your file. If you want to add a minor or concentration, let us know so the appropriate paperwork can be submitted. If you are going to be absent from class for an extended length of time, contact your professors and the Advising Center.
