Paul DiPietrantonio

Paul DiPietrantonio '97
Chair

A graduate of the ÐÓ°ÉÔ­°æ, class of 1997, Paul is the Vice-President of Accounting at Lionstone Investments, a subsidiary of Ameriprise. With over 25 years of experience in the field of accounting and finance, he is a proud first-generation college graduate whose parents immigrated from Italy.

Beyond his distinguished career, Paul is an avid advocate for promoting Jesuit ideals and the ÐÓ°ÉÔ­°æ. His love for service took root at the ÐÓ°ÉÔ­°æ, where Paul was an active participant in annual volunteerism trips and on-campus events. This passion to serve others and give back has grown outside of Scranton through participation in day of service events, involvement in local volunteer organizations, and fundraisers benefiting charitable organizations. Through fundraising events, Paul has engaged with past national political leaders on topics central to the transformative power of supporting one another.

Paul enjoys spending time with his family; wife Elizabeth, daughter Lucy, and son Franklin Harvey at their home in The Woodlands, Texas.

Michael Bertrand '92

Originally from Audubon, PA, Michael is a 1992 graduate of the ÐÓ°ÉÔ­°æ. After graduating from law school, he worked as an FBI Agent in New York City from 1998 through 2021. While at the FBI, he specialized in investigating acts of international terrorism and was also a member of the FBI's underwater search and evidence response team. Following the FBI, Michael worked in the crisis management field for Twitter and is currently with Citi. He resides in New Jersey with his wife, Mary Alice, who also graduated from the ÐÓ°ÉÔ­°æ in 1992. They have three daughters, Megan ('22), Katie ('24) and Mallory, a high school senior (and hopefully '28).

Joseph Casabona '07

 Joe is a native New Yorker who attended The ÐÓ°ÉÔ­°æ before serving as both Computer Science faculty and IT staff. He started his career over 20 years ago as a freelance web developer before realizing his true passion - to help podcasters and online educators make money online. He uses his background in web development and a decade of experience teaching The U to do just that.

Today, he lives in Downingtown, PA with his wife Erin (’14) and their three future Royals, Teresa, Louis, and Abigail. 


Mara Castellano-Horvath

Mara Castellano-Horvath '07, G'13

 Originally a New Jersey native, Mara graduated with her undergraduate degree in Political Science from the ÐÓ°ÉÔ­°æ in 2007. She went on to receive her M.S. in Human Resources from the ÐÓ°ÉÔ­°æ in 2013. During her time at Scranton, Mara became devoted to living the Ignatian values that were taught to her. She continues to find God in all things, and remains connected by the life-long friendships formed at the ÐÓ°ÉÔ­°æ. Since that time, Mara has given selflessly by working with non-profit organizations and other organizations whose mission statements align with her values.  

She has worked in the Human Resources field for 14 years. Mara has remained connected to Scranton since graduation through volunteer work and the alumni network.  

Mara is a military spouse and a proud mother of her daughter, Maggie. Her husband, Mike, is currently stationed in Mechanicsburg, PA where they reside.


Matthew ChristyMatthew Christy '98

Originally from Altoona, PA, Matt Christy is a 1998 graduate of the ÐÓ°ÉÔ­°æ with a Bachelor of Arts in International Studies.  He followed that with a stint volunteering in Alaska for a non-commercial radio station (building on his four years with WUSR). Matt went on to earn his MPA from Carnegie Mellon ÐÓ°ÉÔ­°æ, followed by working in the public and private sector, including the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in the Governor's Office of Innovation as a Program Manager. Matt has a strong background in change management and organizational design, and is currently working as a federal contractor in process improvement initiatives. Matt and his wife, Bethanny, reside in Hershey, PA.


Thomas CiavarellaThomas Ciavarella '00

Tom works in publishing and specializes in relationship management, business development, and content strategy. He is the head of Public Affairs and Advocacy in North America for Frontiers, a scientific and academic publisher founded in Switzerland. He also runs Smarter Learning, a consultancy that works with startups and scientific, technical, and medical publishers. At Scranton Tom was Editor in Chief of The Aquinas during his senior year (1999-2000) and a graduate of the Special Jesuit Liberal Arts Honors Program, earning bachelor's degrees in both communication and philosophy. He lives in Chicago.


Anne Marie CollinsAnne Marie Collins '88,G'91

Anne Marie Collins graduated from the ÐÓ°ÉÔ­°æ in 1988 with her bachelors’ degree in History. While at the ÐÓ°ÉÔ­°æ, she was active in Campus Ministries, Hand in Hand, was a Resident Assistant and formed life-long friendships. She spent the year after graduation with the Jesuit Volunteer Corp in Detroit, MI working with disadvantaged youth and as a community organizer.  After JVC, Anne Marie returned to the ÐÓ°ÉÔ­°æ where she served as a dorm counselor and earned her Masters in Community Counseling.  

Anne Marie is the Vice President/Executive Director of Drueding Center; a comprehensive social services organization serving families currently experiencing homelessness in a transitional housing program. In addition, the Center operates a nationally accredited child care center, food pantry, permanent supportive housing and provides case management services to other formerly unhoused families.

Anne Marie also serves on the S.C.O.P.E. Foundation board and Redeemer Health’s Intellectual Disabilities Program Board.  Born and raised in Philadelphia, she currently lives just outside of Philly in Huntingdon Valley, PA.


Jeffrey Colucci Jeffrey Colucci, CPA '21

Jeff graduated from The ÐÓ°ÉÔ­°æ in 2021 with a B.S. in Accounting and Finance. During his time at Scranton, he was a member of various clubs and ÐÓ°ÉÔ­°æ committees. Jeff was a member of student government and served as the Vice President and President of the student body. He also participated in a Domestic Outreach trip to Puerto Rico and worked at the Center for Career Development.  

Jeff holds his CPA license and works at KPMG as a Senior Audit Associate serving public and private companies in the New York City area. He currently lives in Northern New Jersey


costelloBernard J. Costello, M.D., D.M.D., FACS '91

Bernard J. Costello earned his bachelor’s degree in biology from the ÐÓ°ÉÔ­°æ. As a university administrator, he strongly advocates for Jesuit education and Ignatian principles as cornerstones of a student’s formation.  

He is the Associate Vice Chancellor for Interdisciplinary Education at the ÐÓ°ÉÔ­°æ of Pittsburgh (Pitt) and the ÐÓ°ÉÔ­°æ of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC).  He is the previous dean of the School of Dental Medicine. Dr. Costello is a tenured Professor of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Chief of Pediatric Maxillofacial Surgery at UPMC Children’s Hospital, where he is a surgeon on the cleft-craniofacial team. He has led maxillofacial surgery and related services across UPMC and has served on the health system and university senior leadership teams.  

He received his doctorates in medicine and dental medicine from the ÐÓ°ÉÔ­°æ of Pennsylvania. Following his residency training at the ÐÓ°ÉÔ­°æ of Pennsylvania, Dr. Costello completed a pediatric craniomaxillofacial fellowship at the Posnick Center for Facial Surgery and Georgetown ÐÓ°ÉÔ­°æ Medical Center.

 As Associate Vice Chancellor, he drives team-based programming across the university in curriculum development, online/hybrid education, clinical team development, community engagement, research, clinical care, and interprofessional educational platforms.  As Director of the Center for Interprofessional Education (CIPE), he builds cross-institutional engagement and platforms for students, faculty, and staff.  

Dr. Costello is known for his translational research in regenerative medicine for craniofacial deformities. He also authored novel guidelines for responsible pain management and has been a strong public advocate for measures to fight the opioid addiction crisis.  He has published numerous peer-reviewed publications and has served as an editor and author for several key texts focusing on craniomaxillofacial reconstruction. 

Dr. Costello is a past president of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, the American Academy of Craniomaxillofacial Surgeons, and the American Cleft Palate-Craniofacial Association. He lectures internationally on pediatric facial disorders and craniofacial regenerative translational research. He also treats facial injuries for the Pittsburgh Penguins Hockey team in conjunction with UPMC Sports Medicine.



Jennifer Dice
Jennifer Dice '10, G'14

Jennifer Dice graduated with a BS in Media and IT in 2010 and immediately began working in the Office of Admission at The ÐÓ°ÉÔ­°æ. While recruiting, she also completed her MS in Human Resources Management in 2014. As a student, she worked with the Esprit literary magazine,  served on the President’s Cabinet as the Executive Chair of the Programming Board, and lead international service trips. Jenn has continued working in education and is an active member of NACAC, PACAC, NAIS, and ACCIS. She currently works a Co-Director of College Counseling at Wyoming Seminary College Preparatory School.  

Jennifer resides in Dalton, PA with her husband Dean (Class of 2009).

Brian Duke, MHA, MBE '79
Chair, Alumni Connections Committe

Brian Duke MHA MBE FCPP is a consultant who works to improve the care of people who are older adults. He also works with individuals, organizations and communities to apply person-centered approaches to help people age and live well. He served as System Director, Senior Services with Main Line Health. In that position he provided strategic direction in creating and implementing population health strategies to improve the care of patients who are older adults. Prior to this he served as Secretary of the Pennsylvania Department of Aging.  During his term he led the Pennsylvania’s Alzheimer’s State Plan Task Force to create a State Plan for Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Disorders. He is President of the Eastern Pennsylvania Geriatrics Society and is Chair of the American Society on Aging Legacy Corp.  Mr. Duke serves as a Board Member with Penn Asian Senior Services, Generations on Line, Together for West Philadelphia and the ÐÓ°ÉÔ­°æ Alumni Advisory Board. He is a member of the public policy committee of Pennsylvania Society for Post-Acute and Long-Term Care Medicine and an Advisor to the Board of Senior Community Services. He is a Fellow of the College of Physicians of Philadelphia.  Mr. Duke served as Treasurer of the American Society on Aging (ASA) and is past chair of the nonprofit Someone To Tell It To. His journey in aging includes work with passionate leaders and colleagues in academic medicine, public media, philanthropy, advocacy, caregiver support, innovation, area agencies on aging and public service. He holds a B.S. in Business Administration from the ÐÓ°ÉÔ­°æ, an MHA (Health Administration) from George Washington ÐÓ°ÉÔ­°æ and an MBE (Bioethics) from the ÐÓ°ÉÔ­°æ of Pennsylvania.

Vincent Galko has over twenty years of experience working on national, state and local issues and campaigns, Galko is regarded as one of the top political and government affairs strategists in Pennsylvania. He has worked for multiple United States Senators, Members of Congress, Pennsylvania Governors and he served as Regional Administrator for the United States Department of Education in President George W. Bush’s Administration.

In addition to serving as a top political adviser, Vincent has represented some of the nation’s most influential businesses and organizations on legislative and public relations matters. These range from matters of health care to finance, transportation, infrastructure and technology.

Vincent was appointed to the Pennsylvania Commission for the United States Semiquincentenal to plan the celebration and events surrounding the 250th birthday of our nation. He is a past member on the Pennsylvania Real Estate Commission and the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing. He currently sits on the The ÐÓ°ÉÔ­°æ’s Alumni Advisory Committee, the Board of Directors member at the Scranton Chamber of Commerce and the Northeastern Pennsylvania Economic Alliance and a former member of Scranton Preparatory School’s Board of Trustees. He has served as part-time faculty member at the ÐÓ°ÉÔ­°æ of Pennsylvania’s Fels Institute of Government. He has been a guest lecturer at Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government. He is a member of St. Eulalia’s Parrish where he is religious education instructor and lector.

Vincent holds a B.A. from Saint Joseph’s ÐÓ°ÉÔ­°æ, an M.A. from the ÐÓ°ÉÔ­°æ and an M.G.A. from the ÐÓ°ÉÔ­°æ of Pennsylvania. He and his wife, Megan reside in Northeastern Pennsylvania with their five children.

Kevin Gremse is a Senior Director at the National Development Council (NDC),  one of the nation’s oldest and innovative non-profit economic and development organizations. Kevin leads of team of professionals and coordinates a multi-disciplined set of economic development services and investment and lending products in the eastern Unites States.

Kevin is a 1987 graduate of the ÐÓ°ÉÔ­°æ. While at the ÐÓ°ÉÔ­°æ, Kevin was and Resident Assistant, was a member of the baseball team, and was active in Campus Ministries. Kevin participated in the Jesuit Volunteer Corps (JVC) and earned a master’s degree at the ÐÓ°ÉÔ­°æ of Pennsylvania’s Fels Institute of Government.

Kevin lives in Fairfield Connecticut with his wife Melinda and four children. He has served on the board of Catholic Charities of Fairfield County and a local community development financial institution (CDFI).

Originally from Stroudsburg, PA, Abby graduated with her Bachelor of Science in Accounting from the ÐÓ°ÉÔ­°æ in 2017. She also received her Master of Science in Accountancy from the ÐÓ°ÉÔ­°æ in 2018. During her time at Scranton, Abby was involved in various parts of campus life including serving as an RA in Residence Life, serving as Secretary of the Business Club, working as the Finance Intern for the Clubs & Organizations Office, and participating in other clubs, organizations, and activities. After graduation, Abby began her career in accounting at PwC in NYC. She spent 3 years in audit and assurance services in the banking and capital markets sector. During this time, she also earned her CPA license in NY State.

After leaving public accounting, Abby began working at The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina, where she currently serves as the Associate Vice President for Finance and Business. Over the last 3.5 years, Abby has immersed herself in the higher education community. She is a member of NACUBO, SACUBO, AICPA, SCACPA, and NCURA. Most recently she completed NACUBO’s Emerging Leaders Program with the 2023-2024 cohort. She also serves as an adjunct professor of accounting at The Citadel, teaching introductory accounting courses at the freshmen and sophomore level.

Abby currently resides in Charleston, SC.

Michael Heron '18

Michael graduated from the ÐÓ°ÉÔ­°æ in 2019 with his Bachelors Degree in Finance. 

Michael is a vibrant and eager young business professional with a strong history of achievement in Financial Services. He has spent the bulk of his career in Operations and Investor Relations, but has recently switched directions in his career towards Corporate Finance. 

Michael is currently a Finance & Accounting Associate at GroupM, a global advertising and media investment company in New York City, and currently serves as a member of the ÐÓ°ÉÔ­°æ Alumni Advisory Board. Michael is committed to fostering community engagement and mentorship and holds a strong belief in the transformative power of education and teamwork, striving to build pathways and relationships with and for current and future Royals.

In addition to his career, Michael is an avid advocate for promoting the ÐÓ°ÉÔ­°æ and its ideals and values. His passion for engagement took root at the ÐÓ°ÉÔ­°æ during his undergraduate years, where Michael was an extremely active student on campus. 

He was a Dean’s List graduate and Loyola Merit Scholar, along with being the Vice President of the Business Club, a Co-Founder of the ÐÓ°ÉÔ­°æ’s Archery Team, an Academic Tutor, and a Committee Member for the Future Alumni Network of Scranton (FANS) and a Kania School of Management Student Advisory Board Member.

Michael currently lives in Stamford, Connecticut. In his free time, he enjoys traveling and spending time with friends and family. He is an avid sports fan and passionate about cars and loves playing golf, pickleball, and baseball.

Alison graduated from the ÐÓ°ÉÔ­°æ in 1999 with a B.S. in Biology and Mathematics. While at Scranton, she was involved in the Honors Program, Student Government, and the Symphonic Band, as well as serving as a Teaching Assistant and Peer Tutor. Following a Fulbright Fellowship to Japan, she received her M.S. in Wildlife Management from the State ÐÓ°ÉÔ­°æ of New York, College of Environmental Science and Forestry.

Upon returning to the Scranton area, Alison completed her M.S. in Secondary Education from the ÐÓ°ÉÔ­°æ. She currently teaches mathematics at Wyoming Seminary, where she also serves as the 8th grade team leader.

Alison resides in Olyphant, PA with her husband, Steve G’05. They have 2 children, Gabriel and Abigail.


Robert Marchand '79Robert Marchand

Bob graduated from the ÐÓ°ÉÔ­°æ in 1979 with a B.A. in Communications. While at Scranton he was the co-founder and editor of Contrast & Review, an alternative to The Aquinas at the time. He served as program director and DJ for WYRE, an early incarnation of the current campus radio station. He also served as vice president of his junior class.

Bob retired from Allstate Insurance Company in 2013 after a 34 year career in claims management. He currently works in his son’s insurance agency as a sales and service representative and thoroughly enjoys having his son as his boss.

Bob resides in Warrington, PA., with his wife Theresa. He is a lector at his home parish, St. Robert Bellarmine. He cherishes spending time with his sons and their families, especially his amazing granddaughters. Bob enjoys traveling, hiking and the ever challenging game of golf.


Joseph McCormack, Ph.D. '05Joseph McCormack

Joseph McCormack graduated from The ÐÓ°ÉÔ­°æ in 2005, majoring in Economics and minoring in Math and Finance. He received the Excellence in Economic Achievement award upon graduation and went on to receive a PhD in Economics from The George Washington ÐÓ°ÉÔ­°æ.

Prior to earning his PhD, Joe worked for FactSet Research Systems and then while working for his PhD he worked for the Congressional Research Service (CRS), the World Bank, and the Senate Budget Committee. Upon completion Joe worked with Capital One designing econometric models and evaluating international banking regulations and then for Summit Consulting as a project manager for 3rd party audit of government models. Currently, Joe is a financial economist working for the federal government evaluating various economic and business sector conditions and how they impact banks.

Joe lives outside Washington, DC in northern Virginia with his wife, daughter (future Royal... purple is already her favorite color), and dog (Chesapeake Bay Retriever). He enjoys golfing when he can, going out to restaurants (fancy to casual to dive bars), and spending time offline with family and friends whenever possible.


 

Christopher NeumannChristopher Neumann, Esq. '87

Chris Neumann graduated from the ÐÓ°ÉÔ­°æ in 1987 with a B.S. in Public Administration. He resides in Northport, New York with his wife Nancy (Lange) Neumann, C.P.A. (U. of S. graduate, 1987) and their two sons, Christopher and Timothy. Chris earned his law degree from the Dickinson School of Law in 1990. After graduating from law school Chris began his legal career with The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey where he continues to work today. Chris has extensive litigation experience in the Federal and State trial and appellate courts in New York and New Jersey. He handles complex personal injury cases from inception through trial and appeal. Chris also manages the Port Authority’s self-insured Workers’ Compensation program including supervision of staff, and providing legal advice to the Port Authority’s treasury department. Chris represents the Port Authority Trans-Hudson Corporation in all administrative hearings and applications regarding regulatory compliance before the Federal Railroad Administration. Chris has been a regular lecturer at the Port Authority Police Academy and the New Jersey Self Insurers Association.

Chris enjoys spending time with his family and is passionate about fishing and basketball. Chris still attempts to play basketball but he spends a lot of time coaching the game. He is the CYO basketball coordinator for his home Parish, St. Philip Neri in Northport. He is a recipient of the CYO of Nassau and Suffolk Role Model award for his long time work with kids in youth basketball. 


James O'NeillJames O'Neill '67

Originally from Binghamton, NY, Jim graduated in 1967 with a BS in History and Political Science. Two years in the Army led  to 24 years as a Special Agent  in the United States Secret Service followed by 10 years in corporate security and private endeavors. 

 Currently retired,  Jim enjoys life with his wife of 50 years and his wonderful family. Presently on the Board of SOAR (Support Our Aging Religious) a non-profit organization that supports retired priests and nuns, Jim also plays an active role at his home parish in Reston, Virginia. 

He credits much of his good fortune to the Jesuit values and strong education he received while at Scranton ÐÓ°ÉÔ­°æ and is eagerly looking forward to his work with the  Scranton Alumni Board. 



Matthew PrudenteMatthew Prudente, Ph.D. '09
Chair, Recent Graduate Committee

Matt is an assistant professor of mathematics at Alvernia ÐÓ°ÉÔ­°æ.  He is originally from Allentown, PA. Matt received is BS in Mathematics in 2009 and received his MS and PhD in Mathematics from Lehigh ÐÓ°ÉÔ­°æ in 2011 and 2015, respectively.  He taught at Saint Vincent College before returning to the Lehigh Valley.

While at Scranton, Matt was a three year Resident Assistant, Orientation Team Leader, and member of the math club.  Over his time there, he was involved with USPB, give tours, and was a supplemental instructor.  Currently, Matt stays involved with the Lehigh Valley Alumni Chapter.

Matt currently lives in Alburtis, PA with his wife, Mary, his two sons, Owen and Jack.


Rosemary ShaverRosemary Shaver, Ed.D. '12

 Originally from Shavertown, PA, Rosemary graduated from the ÐÓ°ÉÔ­°æ in 2012 with a B.A. in History and Political Science. She also completed a Theology and Religious Studies minor, Peace and Justice Studies concentration, and the Honors Program. As an undergraduate, Rosemary was highly involved in student activities including as editor-in-chief of The Aquinas and President of Alpha Sigma Nu.

Inspired by her passion for education and experiences as a first generation college student, Rosemary earned a Masters of Education in Higher Education from the Pennsylvania State ÐÓ°ÉÔ­°æ and a Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership from Wilkes ÐÓ°ÉÔ­°æ. She is Senior Program Manager for Programs with the African Sisters Education Collaborative, a non-profit education collaborative based at Marywood ÐÓ°ÉÔ­°æ in Scranton, PA. In her work, Rosemary works with Catholic universities and partners in 10 countries in Africa to facilitate educational opportunities to Catholic Sisters in Africa. Rosemary completed the Association of Catholic Colleges and Universities' Institute for Administrators in Catholic Higher Education at Boston College in 2022. She also serves on the ÐÓ°ÉÔ­°æ's Friends of the Weinberg Memorial Library Advisory Board. 



Lisa ThomasLisa Thomas, M.D. '87

 Lisa C. Thomas, MD, practices medicine at Hematology & Oncology Associates of Northeastern Pennsylvania and is a senior partner. Her particular clinical focus is in the areas of breast cancer and esophageal and colon cancers. In addition to serving as regional assistant dean for the North Campus, Dr. Thomas is a preceptor for third- and fourth-year medial students at Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine, as well as for physician assistant students.

Dr. Thomas earned her B.S. in Biology from The ÐÓ°ÉÔ­°æ and her M.D. from Drexel ÐÓ°ÉÔ­°æ College of Medicine. She resides in Archbald, PA.

Kathleen TuohyKathleen Tuohy Kloniecke '12

 Kathleen Kloniecke is an experienced Special Education Teacher with a demonstrated history of working with students diagnosed with language and learning disabilities. She graduated from The ÐÓ°ÉÔ­°æ in 2012 with a B.S. in Elementary and Special Education, and then served full-time in the Jesuit Volunteer Corps. She earned a master's degree in Educational Development and Strategies from Wilkes ÐÓ°ÉÔ­°æ.

Today, Kathleen is a Special Education teacher at KIPP New Jersey. She resides in Scranton.

Ed Westlake '16

Ed Westlake graduated from The ÐÓ°ÉÔ­°æ of Scranton with a degree in Human Resource Studies and Business minor. While at Scranton, Ed swam for The ÐÓ°ÉÔ­°æ Men's Swim Team, was a Resident Assistant, member of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee, and worked at the Estate for the Office of Admissions.

Ed enjoys traveling, spending time with friends and family, golfing, and swimming. He enjoys connecting with Scranton alumni and students; and always finds someone with a connection to The ÐÓ°ÉÔ­°æ wherever he goes.  

Ed currently works in HR Technology at Lincoln Financial in Radnor, PA and lives in Newtown Square, PA.
