Lori Bruch, Ph.D.
EXCELLENCE IN UNIVERSITY SERVICE AND LEADERSHIP
This award is designed to recognize the efforts of faculty who strive for excellence in service to the ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ, the profession and the community and who demonstrate academic leadership by effective mentoring of junior colleagues. The recipient of this award is Dr. Lori Bruch.
Lori has been a faculty member in the Department of Counseling and Human Services since 1995. During her time at Scranton, she has served in many service and leadership roles, including Department Chair since 2015, Interim Chair in the Department of Education, and Peer Reviewer for the Education Department. She is a member of many national and regional organizations, having served as a Board member and chair of the Council on Rehabilitation Education, the President of the National Association of Rehabilitation Leadership and President of the Pennsylvania Rehabilitation Association, to name just a few.
Dr. Bruch has worked tirelessly to assist junior colleagues within and outside of her department in finding the right balance between teaching, research, and service in fulfilling their professional responsibilities.
One of her colleagues recently wrote, “Lori has always put service to the ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ, department, students, faculty, and others above her own needs. Despite all of her responsibilities and timelines, each and every time I have approached Lori, she has always made me feel like my issues or questions were the most important to her. She never once made me feel like I was bothering her. Consequently, she was always very approachable. I always felt as if Lori wanted to help me to be the strongest professional and personal version of myself. She finds success in helping others to succeed. I feel that having her as a mentor and friend has truly been a gift from above and I thank God for smiling on me and all those who had the blessing of working and learning next to her.”
