Instructional Technology Services

The Center for Teaching Excellence (CTE) and the Office of Student Support and Success (OSSS) offers Instructional Technology Services to faculty and students in the teaching and learning environment.

Faculty interested in such services can contact the CTE Instructional Technologist/Technical Projects and Operations Manager to make an appointment.  Walk-in visits are also welcome in the Technical Resource Lab, STT589.     

If you are interested in using a digital notebook, digital recorder, or alpha notebook in the classroom, the CTE has some available for faculty to borrow.  Please complete this Learning Technologies Proposal.

Technical Resource Lab Hours

The Technical Resource Lab, located in Loyola Science Center 589, contains high-end software and hardware in a work place well-suited for collaboration.

Services Available

  • Brightspace Training & Assistance

    The CTE offers assistance with the use of Brightspace to faculty. Faculty can learn how to use Brightspace to engage students in more class participation/discussion and to make reviewing course content more fun.

  • Lecture Capture: Panopto

    Panopto is a presentation-capture system that allows instructors to record what happens in their classrooms and make it available digitally. The Panopto recording interface is only available through the Brightspace learning management system.

    Faculty can use Panopto on a classroom computer to capture interactions, lectures, presentations, student demonstrations and role-playing scenarios. It can also be used on a faculty member’s computer to create learning modules to deliver ancillary content or pre-lecture information.

  • Web Consulting

    TechCons (student consultants) are available to assist faculty in developing, enhancing, or updating web pages and publishing course materials on the web.

  • Training in Instructional Technologies

    Training in general instructional technologies is offered throughout the year. Faculty classroom training is provided when new classrooms are mediated, at the beginning of each Fall and Spring semester, and whenever faculty request assistance using the technology in a room they are teaching in.

    Faculty workshops/seminars are held throughout the year on Pedagogy, Brightspace, E-Portfolio development, and to showcase available technology and how it can enhance teaching.

  • Portfolio and E-Portfolio Support

    Faculty can get assistance in creating electronic portfolios. Capturing still pictures and video, transferring files from a digital or video camera to a computer, editing graphics and video, scanning, and saving everything to a server-based folder as well as burning it to a CD are all part of the E-Portfolio services offered.

  • Assistance with PowerPoint Presentations

    The CTE can provide assistance to faculty in creating/designing PowerPoint presentations. This includes incorporating text, graphics (photos and clipart), animation, audio/video, Web links, and background s to enhance the presentation.

  • Assistance with Windows Movie Maker and Other Multimedia Resources

    Staff and student technical consultants are available to assist faculty in using multimedia resources that are available in the Instructional Lab in the CTE such as scanners, digital cameras, video cameras, and color printers.
