About the Program

The VITA Program has been an important part of the local community for over 40 years, not only for residents, but also for students. Under the preparation and supervision of Joseph A. Hammond Jr., MBA, CPA, students can become tax interns and assist with the program.

Requirements

Students must be an Accounting major of at least Sophomore standing.

Responsibilities

Because the program works with real clients, it provides students with up-to-date and diverse tasks that can be used in a future career. As an intern, you will get the opportunity to work with real documentation such as:

  • W2 Forms
  • 1099 forms (interest, dividends, pensions)
  • Unemployment paperwork
  • Real estate tax receipts

Benefits of Completing the Internship

  • Gain hands-on experience and mentorship
  • Develop a better understanding of the demands of professional accounting
  • Help students better understand and plan their own future career plans
  • Apply what you have learned in the classroom to a professional environment
