Mission Statement

The function of the Office of Internal Audit (OIA) most directly aligns itself with the ÐÓ°ÉÔ­°æ's mission by contributing to the fulfillment of the goals and objectives articulated under the financial responsibility theme within the .

The mission of the OIA is to provide independent, objective assurance and consulting services designed to add value and improve the operations of the ÐÓ°ÉÔ­°æ. The OIA brings a systematic, disciplined approach to evaluate and improve the effectiveness of risk management, control, and governance processes.

Through internal reviews and audits, the OIA aims to help ensure that internal controls exist and are functioning properly at the ÐÓ°ÉÔ­°æ. These controls help ensure that (1) ÐÓ°ÉÔ­°æ resources and interests are safeguarded, (2) ÐÓ°ÉÔ­°æ policies and external laws and regulations are complied with, and (3) ÐÓ°ÉÔ­°æ operations are efficient and management practices are sound.

The OIA works with the ÐÓ°ÉÔ­°æ's external auditing firm. Annually, the OIA performs external audit assignments related to the ÐÓ°ÉÔ­°æ's mandatory financial, OMB Circular A-133, and retirement plans audits.
