Kristen Thomas
My name is Kristen Thomas and I am a Senior Accelerated BS/MS School Counseling student at the ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ. I completed my second internship at The Office of Career Services, on campus, during the Fall 2014 semester.
As an intern, I was involved in student career advising appointments, reviewing/critiquing student’s resumes through the College Central Network, performed research to identify resources for students/alumni, and participated in office outreach activities.
The Office of Career Services goes beyond for their students and interns and I always felt very involved within the office by attending weekly staff meetings. I submitted my resume and applied online through the College Central Network database for this internship. This is a great resource to use when searching for employment, internships, or volunteer work and it even allows employers to contact you.
My internship has allowed me explore the world of career counseling and given me the skills to further develop my professional identity as a future school counselor. I would recommend that students utilize Career Services and their services for finding internship placements.
The best advice I can give is to utilize resources, on and off campus, and make network connections with employers or students working within your field of interest.
