First Year Faculty Ignatian Workshop

In order to fulfill its charge to form the faculty and staff in the great Catholic and Ignatian heritage that is foundational to The ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ, The Jesuit Center began the First Year Faculty Seminar.  This program seeks to help each new faculty member to learn about, and articulate, the Catholic and Jesuit values that inform the overall mission of The ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ.

This program, entitled First-Year Faculty Seminar, is specifically designed to give each new faculty members a deep understanding of the Catholic and Jesuit ideals that animate our common work as well as pedagogical material and insight to help our newest colleagues incorporate the values learned with their own teaching and research.

Although the foundational ideals we will be exploring rest upon Catholic and Jesuit principles, everyone is invited to participate and we believe you will find this program efficacious.

Some of the goals for the seminar are:

  • Each participant will be able to articulate what it means to be teaching at a Catholic and Jesuit ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ
  • New faculty members will receive help incorporating mission components into their annual self-report
  • New faculty members will develop and understanding of the history of the Society of Jesus (The Jesuits) and Jesuit Higher Education
  • Participation will build community among the members of the entrance cohort and among the senior faculty and administration who will engage the cohort throughout the year

We encourage each first-year faculty member to participate in this year-long seminar.  Meetings will occur only once a month.  We will meet during the lunch hour and will provide lunch for all participants.

The ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ is a wonderful place to teach and do research.  It is our hope that you will find a home here at The ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ and that your career here will benefit countless generations of students in the future.
