National Jesuit Student Leadership Conference
The National Jesuit Student Leadership Conference (NJSLC) is a national leadership conference for students attending Jesuit universities. For five days each year, the conference brings together over 300 students from across the country. The students who attend are provided with unique opportunities for leadership development, personal growth, and networking among their peers. In addition, the attendees are also presented with opportunities to explore the locale of the host school and experience the local culture.
After a bidding process, a different school is selected to host the conference each year. A great deal of planning and organization is inherent in hosting a conference of this size, and a core aim of the conference is to be led entirely by students.
Each year, the Center for Student Engagement in collaboration with the Division of Student Life, sends a delegation of students to attend the conference. If you are interested in learning more about this conference, please email leadership@scranton.edu for additional information.
History of NJSLC
In August of 1997, at Regis ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ in Denver, CO, students from a number of the 28 Jesuit colleges and their affiliate universities gathered in an effort to improve the leadership at each school. The original purpose of the conference was to improve the student governments at each university. Now, though, the conference includes community service leaders, orientation staffs, resident housing staff members, peer educators, club leaders, and even administrators.
NJSLC stands for the National Jesuit Student Leadership Conference. Since its premier, the conference has been bringing together student leaders from around the nation in order to improve our ability to serve our fellow students. The following mission statement was adopted in 1997:
"Student organization leaders collaborating to develop ideas, explore student issues, and build stronger leadership skills to better serve their colleges and universities in the Jesuit tradition."
JASPA's sponsored NJSLC conference continues to grow around its mission statement, student organization leaders collaborating to develop ideas, explore student issues, and build stronger leadership skills to better serve their colleges and universities in the Jesuit tradition.
