Graduation Requirements

Each Leahy College of Health Sciences (LCHS) department determines which of their courses are suitable for community based learning (CBL) experiences. Students are expected to follow their department's recommendations for curriculum and CBL opportunities. All LCHS students must complete community based learning as a requirement for graduation.

All full-time, undergraduate students must complete a minimum number of community based learning hours as a requirement for graduation from the Leahy College of Health Sciences. Below are the minimum number of community based learning hours for each program:

Counseling & Human Services: 80 hours
Nursing: 40 hours
Health Administration: 80 hours
Human Resources Studies: 80 hours
Occupational Therapy: 80 hours
Health Promotion: 65 hours
Kinesiology: 80 hours
Communication Sciences & Disorders: 80 hours
Liberal Studies: 40 hours

It should be noted that students frequently exceed the minimum number of community based learning hours.

In addition to completing the required CBL hours, all seniors must submit a reflection essay. More information about the essay can be found on the main LCHS Community Based Learning webpage.

Students who do not complete the community based learning requirement will not be allowed to graduate.
