Air Conditioning

The ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ offers a wide variety of student housing options.  Please refer to the information below to get a general idea as to what you can expect in regards to air conditioning.

First-Year Housing

Typically, first-year students live in traditional residence halls without air conditioning.  It is recommended that students bring fans to use in their individual rooms.  Students are permitted to open their windows but may not remove the screens.

Sophomore Housing

Sophomore students are typically assigned to suite-style housing (quads) in Condron, Gavigan, and Redington Halls, all which have have central air and allow for temperature control in each room.

Upperclass & Graduate Housing

Our junior/senior housing is air conditioned.

Graduate housing in Quincy Avenue Apartments has central air conditioning.

Seasonal Transitions

In Northeastern PA the weather has the ability to change significantly from day-to-day in the Spring and Fall months.  Facilities Operations uses their best judgment, taking into consideration energy efficiency and student comfort, when to switch between heat and air conditioning (most of our buildings cannot run both simultaneously).  Air conditioning is typically operational from mid-April to mid-September.  It is challenging to accommodate the temperature preferences of each individual student, though every effort is made to maximize comfort for each residence hall community.

Summer Housing

We utilize air conditioned buildings to house students on-campus for the summer months.
